LIEC 325 FOREIGN LANGUAGE
This course will introduce students to basic knowledge and skills of communicating new language and achieve the beginning levels of fluency. This course is designed to develop fundamental reading and study strategies at the basic level needed for curriculum programs. Emphasis is placed on building vocabulary and cultural knowledge, improving comprehension, and developing study strategies on basic-level college materials and literary works. Participate in multilingual communities at both home and abroad by communicating and interacting with cultural competence.
LIA 224 ENGLISH PROFICIENCY PROGRAM
This course has been specially included to help students improve their communication skill in English; Speaking, Listening and Reading skills to raise their confidence level and be better equipped to compete in the job market. Emphasis is on the development of confidence, vocabulary, grammar, diction, pronunciation, body language and expression. In order to function in a range of settings and for a variety of objectives, one must be able to communicate effectively in English.
PLATFORM SECURITIY
This course covers strategic, defense and security studies to library information sources. Whereas platform security relates to securing computing systems against unwanted access and use. This includes issues such as information management, information privacy and data integrity in a library and would include personnel security and policies, steps taken for effective backups, and the physical integrity of computing facilities.

Programming Fundamentals SY 2022-2023
This
knowledge area is intended to provide foundation skills for subsequent courses
in computer programming. It covers the fundamentals of logic formulation
together with their implementation in the programming language.
MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS BLIS 4A
This is an introductory course on the principles and concepts of multimedia systems and its applications. The
course shall include discussion on core topics such as color theory,
compression schemes, image design and processing, video production and
interactive presentations / applications.
The current trends, tools, techniques and guidelines in the development
of multimedia will also be covered. Upon successful completion of the course,
students will identify and describe the function of the general skill sets in
the multimedia industry, the basic components of multimedia project, its
hardware and software.
Educational Technology
This course is designed to introduce the theoretical and practical aspects of educational technology as bases for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of instruction. Students are expected to acquire skills in integrating technology in various content areas. Course activities are focused on the design and development of ICT-based instructional plan. Upon completion of the course, students are expected to create a personal ePortfolio that will illustrate their learning experiences, progress and achievements throughout the semester.
Operating System 2022-2023
This course shall be focusing on the basic concepts of operating systems in terms of its functionality and internal organization. It shall also cover file systems and storage, which is significant in library information science. Topics such as Multitasking and Multithreading, User Interfaces, and OS Configuration will also be discussed. Moreover, students will be able to learn how to secure an operating system and introduce the concept of a virtual computing service.
LIS 3113 - INTRODUCTION TO RECORDS MANAGEMENT & ARCHIVES - 2022
This course provides an overview to archival theory and philosophy, archives principles and practices, and records management framework and approaches. The course aims to expand one’s general perspective on information science while also providing a holistic foundation, both in principles and praxis, to those individuals aspiring to pursue further studies and training in archiving and records management. At the end of course, the students will archive the collected documents with respect to their provenance and original order, to protect their context and to achieve physical or intellectual control over the materials.
Information Processing and Handling in Libraries and Information Center
This course covers the concepts of bibliographic control, the principles of bibliographic description, Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) standard, and the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing standard subject heading lists such as Sears and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) in defining bibliographic material content. The structure and applications of major classification codes, including LC and Dewey. Students will also be familiar with the principles of authority control and other methods of maintaining consistency and clarity in bibliographic databases. Further, this course shall also discuss bibliographic networks and utilities, workflow design, and new approaches to cataloging in the changing information environment.
LIS 229-DATABASE DESIGN FOR LIBRARIES
The main goal of the course
is to expose students on physical database designs particularly in parallel to
library information systems that shall provide accurate and timely
information. Topics shall Storage and file structure, indexed files,
hashed files, signature files, database efficiency and tuning. The
students shall also learn how to design SQL Queries for a relational database
to satisfy the end-users’ information / data needs.
Information Literacy
The course gives emphasis on the library as a source of information. It is designed to give introductory knowledge, techniques and skills in conducting efficient library research which shall include searching, identifying, evaluating, synthesizing, managing and the ethical use of library information. This shall also cultivate technical proficiency in accessing and utilizing both printed and electronic library materials relevant to user’s/researchers needs which leads to the development of library instructional programs.
Indigenous Knowledge and Multiculturalism in Libraries
This course focuses on the issues of diverse communities and the ways that LIS education and library training need to incorporate cultural competencies, knowledge and practices. This will further the awareness of the importance of LIS education in multicultural competencies and indigenous knowledge paradigms. Examines resources and materials targeted for diverse user groups in libraries and community organizations, locally and globally. Surveys issues and trends related to diversity initiatives affecting the publishing industry, libraries, and cultural institutions worldwide.
LIA 223 INTRODUCTION TO MUSEUMS 2022
This course provides a broad introduction to the museum world, and is an
overview of basic elements of museums, their missions, and their
characteristics. It is organized around the key professional activities of
museums – Leadership and Management, Collections, Interpretation, and Community
Connections. It concentrates on the multi-disciplinarily inherent in museum
work, as students gain appreciation of the range of skills and knowledge
required for succeeding in the museum profession. Museums of art, history,
natural history, are included, as well as museums large and small.
